My name is Shae Black\, founder of Black Women of Charleston—and this walk is personal. I was first diagnosed with Sjögren’s Syndrome and Rheumatoid Arthritis at 17. By 18\, I was diagnosed with Lupus (SLE)\, and at 25\, Tumid Lupus. I’ve gone through years of trials\, pain\, and learning how to manage multiple autoimmune diseases. While I may look fine most days\, the reality is I struggle more than people see. I get sick often. I’ve had multiple hospital visits. My body doesn’t always cooperate the way I want it to. Even something as simple as walking can be painful for me. I joke about not liking to walk\, but the truth is—it’s not always easy. And that’s why this matters. Lupus disproportionately affects black women\, and far too many of us are silently dealing with it every single day.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n Black women are 2–3x more likely to develop lupus  \n\n\n\n We are often diagnosed younger and experience more severe symptoms  \n\n\n\n Lupus can impact the kidneys\, heart\, joints\, and more  \n\n\n\n Many people living with lupus “look fine” while fighting daily battles This walk isn’t about distance or pace.
