DESCRIPTION:Come join us for a special screening of “Wade in the Water” at The Terrace Theater – presented by Charleston Surfrider and ‘shes on edge’\n\n\nWade in the Water Screening @ The Terrace Theater \n“A journey into black surfing and aquatic culture” \nCome join us for an exclusive screening of the film “Wade in the Water” at The Terrace Theater presented by Charleston Surfrider and ‘shes on edge’ \n \nDiscover the Untold Stories of Black Surfing Legends \nCreated by David Mesfin\, an award-winning creative director and multidisciplinary designer\, the Wade in the Water project includes a full-length documentary paired with a series of limited-edition fine art portrait prints. \nMesfin’s inspiration came in the wake of the global movement for racial justice in the U.S. and beyond following the series of hate crimes in 2020\, including the murder of George Floyd by a police officer in Minnesota. Channeling his creative energy into something that he envisioned would give back to his community\, he started Wade in the Water. Breaking barriers in the world of film\, Mesfin positions Wade in the Water to honor the historical and contemporary relationship between Black people and the ocean\, and explore the undying\, intergenerational energy of Black waterwomen and watermen. The ultimate intention of the project is to inspire and support the next generation of Black surfers\, specifically Black youth\, by connecting them to the powerful roots of Black surfing’s legacy. \n \n**In the spirit of collaboration\, community\, and celebrating black excellence — 100% of proceeds from this event will be donated to Lowcountry Youth Services.** \nBy supporting Lowcountry Youth Services financially\, you can help change the lives of children in need and positively impact their future. Programs such as The Distinguished Gentlemen’s Club\, Queens Being\, Young Men Rise\, Girls on the Rise\, and Young Leaders Institute are designed to provide consistent\, positive support to children from challenging family circumstances such as poverty\, abuse\, or neglect. Without this guidance\, these children may struggle to navigate life’s challenges and fall into negative patterns that could impact their future.

The electrifying passion and introspective lyrics of songwriter Evan Button\, meet a mesmerizing blend of Caribbean\, Eastern\, and American music to create a previously undefined genre; “Beach Folk.” This cultural phenomenon lends itself to easy listening from the perfect barrels of the Pacific Ocean to the hollers of Appalachia. In three quick years\, the project has gone from backyard parties to national stages across the U.S. supporting Satsang\, Franc Moody\, Of Good Nature\, and Kendall Street Company in addition to festival appearances at Front Porch Fest\, Kentucky Yoga Festival\, Between the Trails\, and others. Cigarettes @ Sunset Cigarettes @ Sunset is a band that hails from the mountains of North Carolina consisting of Garrett Dellinger\, Sarah Vann\, Ryland Bagbey\, Wells Whitman\, and Ethan Moore. Forming in 2021\, the band calls Boone home. a sound that merges Appalachian angst with pop\, outlaw country\, and punk. Since 2021\, they’ve been touring regularly through the east coast with such acts as Dexter & The Moonrocks and others. The band’s music juxtaposes driving guitar riffs\, drums that swerve out of country and punk\, with swelling violin\, and Dellinger’s semi-autobiographical lyrics anchor the band in both time and place.
