SUMMARY:The Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band
DESCRIPTION:The Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Bandw/ Clare Maloney & The Great Adventure Sunday\, Jan 26th 2025 Charleston Pour House Main Stage 7pm doors /8pm show $23 advance /$25 day of show The Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn BandThe Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band has performed in 38 countries and 48 states. They have been featured in Rolling Stone Magazine\, Living Blues\, Elmore\, donned the cover of Vintage Guitar Magazine\, had #1 records on the Billboard Blues Charts\, and have been nominated for three Blues Music Awards by the Blues Foundation in Memphis. The Indianapolis Star listed Reverend Peyton as one of the top 25 Hoosier musicians of all time. Maybe you found the band because of virtuosic guitar playing? Maybe you came for the tent revival style live show? The reasons that brought you here could be extensive\, but the reasons that keep bringing people back are HEART. Real\, from the heart\, music made by people who love music. The Sacramento Bee said\, “It’s a group with boundless stockpiles of heart to spare — it cascades throughout every slip-n-slide vintage blues/soul ditty they tear through and croon in every show they play\, and they always leave a little behind. The front porch is the church\, the church is the dance hall and the dance hall is the river bank — your knees will fail you by the time you figure it all out.” Often called\, “the greatest front-porch blues band in the world” the Big Damn Band is led by Reverend Peyton\, who is considered to be the premier finger pickers playing today. Rev has earned a reputation as both a singularly compelling performer and a persuasive evangelist for the rootsy\, country blues styles that captured his imagination early in life and inspired him and his band to make pilgrimages to Clarksdale\, Mississippi to study under such blues masters as T-Model Ford\, Robert Belfour and David “Honeyboy” Edwards. Accompanied by Rev’s wife\, the washboard virtuoso\, Washboard Breezy Peyton\, and kept on time by the deep rhythms of Jacob “The Snakob” Powell\, Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band will leave you clapping\, stomping\, and singing along every handmade show across the world. Their latest record Dance Songs For Hard Times went #1 on the Billboard\, iTunes and Sirius XM Blues Charts and was produced by Grammy winner Vance Powell (Jack White\, Chris Stapleton). The record is critically acclaimed by Rolling Stone\, Relix\, Popmatters\, Guitar World\, American Songwriter\, No Depression\, Glide\, Wide Open Country\, Paste\, American Blues Scene and many more. \n  Clare Maloney & The Great Adventure Clare Maloney & The Great Adventure are bringing the era of windows-down\, roadtrip rock & roll straight into the playlist generation. Relix magazine named the band an “Artist You Need to Know” in 2023\, calling their debut LP ‘Daybreaker’ “stunning” and praising its “brilliant vocals\, rocking band and polished songwriting.” The album title stands as a sly ode to bandleader Clare Maloney’s decade-long battle with writer’s block\, and triumph over it; night gives way to day\, just as the multi-instrumentalist and former opera singer broke through to write over 100 songs in 2021\, flawlessly blending rock\, alt-country\, americana\, folk\, funk\, the great american songbook & more. Clare’s powerful and emotive vocals are rooted in her early career as a classical singer\, performing at Carnegie Hall\, Lincoln Center\, and throughout Europe and Asia. Despite success in the opera world\, Clare felt the magnetism of the rock & roll music she grew up on\, and daringly transitioned from the classical stage to become a first-call session and touring vocalist\, sharing the stage with members of The Grateful Dead\, Jefferson Starship\, Allman Brothers Band\, Hall & Oates and the E Street Band along the way. Since 2018\, she has toured as a vocalist\, guitarist and flutist with The Englishtown Project\, The Airplane Family and Deadgrass & Friends. As a writer\, Clare’s unique and unmistakable voice is shaped by classical literature\, poetry\, and the sounds of her native New York – from Tin Pin Alley to CBGB’s to Broadway and Brooklyn. Her electric band\, The Great Adventure\, features Nate DeBrine\, who co-produced Daybreaker\, on guitar and vocals\, Russ Gottlieb on bass and electric banjo\, and Caleb Estey on drums and vocals. The band supported their “Daybreaker” release with a 50-date national tour in 2023. Highlights from their breakout year include openings slots for Pat Benatar & Neil Giraldo\, The Wailers and Bailen\, pre-shows for Robert Plant & Alison Krauss\, Phil Lesh & Friends\, and Aimee Mann\, and sit ins from members of Goose. Most recently\, they opened for The Bacon Brothers featuring actor Kevin Bacon. Their highly anticipated follow up EP\, “Reckoning\,” is set for release in early 2025 with new songs due out this fall. \n* Show is 21+. Attendees under the age of 21 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Attendees under 21 will be subject to a $5 surcharge. The surcharge must be paid in cash at the door on the day of the event.

SUMMARY:James McMurtry
DESCRIPTION:James McMurtryw/ BettySooTuesday Jan. 28 2025 Charleston Pour House Main Stage 7pm doors /8pm show $25 advance /$30 day of show James McMurtryJAMES McMURTRY NEW RELEASE THE HORSES AND THE HOUNDS\, HIS FIRST FULL-LENGTH STUDIO ALBUM IN SEVEN YEARS\, RELEASED AUGUST 20\, 2021 ON NEW WEST RECORDS Celebrated songwriter’s highly anticipated new record marks his debuton New West Records and garners a slew of “Best Of 2021” plus an Americana Music Association Song Of The Year Nomination for “Canola Fields” AUSTIN\, Texas — In James McMurtry’s new effort\, The Horses and the Hounds\, the acclaimed songwriter backs personal narratives with effortless elegance (“Canola Fields”) and endless energy (“If It Don’t Bleed”). This first collection in seven years\, out August 20\, 2021 on New West Records\, spotlights a seasoned tunesmith in peak form as he turns toward reflection (“Vaquero”) and revelation ( closer “Blackberry Winter”). Familiar foundations guide the journey. “There’s a definite Los Angeles vibe to this record\,” McMurtry says. “The ghost of Warren Zevon seems to be stomping around among the guitar tracks. Don’t know how he got in there. He never signed on for work for hire.” The Horses and the Hounds is a reunion of sorts. McMurtry recorded the new album with legendary producer Ross Hogarth (John Fogerty\, Van Halen\, Keb’ Mo’) at Jackson Browne’s Groovemaster’s in Santa Monica\, California\, a world class studio that has housed such legends as Bob Dylan (2012’s Tempest) and David Crosby (2016’s Lighthouse) as well as Browne himself for I’m Alive (1993) and New Found Glory\, Coming Home (2006). McMurtry and Hogarth first worked together 30 years ago\, when Hogarth was a recording engineer in the employ of John Mellencamp at Mellencamp’s own Belmont Studios near Bloomington\, Indiana. Hogarth recorded McMurtry’s first two albums\, Too Long in the Wasteland and Candyland\, for Columbia Records and later mixed McMurtry’s first self-produced album\, Saint Mary of the Woods\, for Sugar Hill Records. Another veteran of those three releases\, guitarist David Grissom (Joe Ely\, John Mellencamp\, Dixie Chicks)\, returns with some of his finest work. Accordingly\, the new collection marks another upward trajectory: The Horses and the Hounds will be McMurtry’s debut album on genre-defining Americana record label New West Records (Steve Earle\, Rodney Crowell\, Lucinda Williams\, John Hiatt\, Aaron Lee Tasjan\, Buddy Miller\, dozens more). “I first became aware of James McMurtry’s formidable songwriting prowess while working at Bug Music Publishing in the ’90s\,” says New West president John Allen. “He’s a true talent. All of us at New West are excited at the prospect of championing the next phase of James’ already successful and respected career.” McMurtry perfectly fits a label housing “artists who perform real music for real people.” After all\, No Depression says of the literate songwriter’s most recent collection\, Complicated Game: “Lyrically\, the album is wise and adventurous\, with McMurtry — who’s not prone to autobiographical tales — credibly inhabiting characters from all walks of life.” “[McMurtry] fuses wry\, literate observations about the world with the snarl of barroom rock\,” National Public Radio says. “The result is at times sardonic\, subversive and funny\, but often vulnerable and always poignant.” His lauded storytelling — check out songs such as “Operation Never Mind” and “Ft. Walton Wake-Up Call” on The Horse and the Hounds— consistently has turned heads for decades now. “James writes like he’s lived a lifetime\,” said John Mellencamp back in 1989\, when Too Long in the Wasteland hit the Billboard 200. “James McMurtry is one of my very few favorite songwriters on Earth and these days he’s working at the top of his game\,” says Americana all-star Jason Isbell. “He has that rare gift of being able to make a listener laugh out loud at one line and choke up at the next. I don’t think anybody writes better lyrics.” McMurtry’s albums Just Us Kids (2008) and Childish Things (2005) back the claim\, each scoring endless critical praise. The former earned McMurtry his highest Billboard 200 chart position in two decades (since eclipsed by Complicated Game) and notched Americana Music Award nominations. Childish Things spent six full weeks topping the Americana Music Radio chart in 2005 and 2006\, and won the Americana Music Association’s Album of the Year\, with “We Can’t Make It Here” named the organization’s Song of the Year. Other accolades include a 1996 Grammy nomination for Long Form Music Video for Where’d You Hide the Body and an American Indie Award for Best Americana Album for It Had to Happen (1997). McMurtry tours year-round and consistently throws down unparalleled powerhouse performances\, reflected in the release of two live discs: the universally lauded Live in Aught-Three on Compadre Records\, and 2009’s Live in Europe\, which captured the McMurtry band’s first European tour and extraordinary live set. Along with seasoned band members Ronnie Johnson\, Daren Hess\, and Tim Holt\, Live in Europe features special guests Ian McLagan (Faces) and Jon Dee Graham (True Believers\, Skunks). (Video of the performance is available on the included DVD.) “Lyrically gritty\, musically gutsy\, go tell ‘em all…we need James McMurtry bringin’ us more.” —Andrew Farrris\, INXS “James McMurtry may be the truest\, fiercest songwriter of his generation” —Stephen King \nBettySooIt’s the voice that gets you first. “BettySoo may well have the most gorgeous voice in Texas …if not in all contemporary folk – its purity and strength can be downright devastating.” – ACOUSTIC GUITAR BettySoo’s vocal prowess is a thing of wonder. A world-class instrument of deft phrasing and purity\, a voice that knows when to hold back and when to dive in. At her own live shows\, taking a verse onstage with friends or singing harmonies in sessions with Austin’s finest\, BettySoo sings with consummate loveliness and self-assurance. A voice that knows the roots of American music inside and out; coming from a most unexpected place – a diminutive Korean-American with a deceptively girl-next-door demeanor. Then the performance reels you in. “Truly remarkable. BettySoo’s sharp\, often self-deprecating humor skillfully wove the songs together. Her clear\, evocative voice and poignant lyrics recall Patty Griffin and Joni Mitchell\, and did I mention she’s a hell of a guitar player?”– NO DEPRESSION\, live concert review Touring the unforgiving circuit of listening rooms\, clubs and festivals\, BettySoo has mastered the art of performance. A funny anecdote sets up a song of heartbreak and need; a witty rejoinder belies the dark truths that underpin much of her work. And that’s when you notice the songs. “BettySoo’s ‘How To Live Alone’ is one of the best songs written in Austin during my final decade unwavering.”– KUT\, Austin “Exceptionally well written and arranged songs with a confidence that speaks

SUMMARY:Jackson Stokes
DESCRIPTION:Jackson StokesThursday 1.30.24 Charleston Pour House Deck Stage (pre- Eddie 9V & Paul McDonald) 5pm doors/6pm show 2 sets $8 advance /$10 day of show Jackson Stokes When his latest solo release\, Passengers Volume One\, arrived as a contender for Rock’s Top 20 chart in October of 2023\, Jackson Stokes posted another notch on his growing list of accolades. Whether as a seasoned bandleader\, sought-after ensemble player\, or valued collaborator\, the rock/soul singer-songwriter from St Louis\, Missouri continues to rise as a coveted musical commodity. And with tens of thousands of touring miles logged across four continents- including\, in 2023\, a World Record achievement; performing 50 shows in 50 U.S. states in 49 days with the Devon Allman Project and Donavon Frankenreiter- Stokes is\, as well\, the consummate rock-and-roll road dog. A six-song\, groove-n-soul EP\, Passengers Volume One\, features Stokes helming his touring band and a host of special guests\, and is produced by the venerable Luther Dickinson\, of the Grammy-nominated North Mississippi Allstars. Written almost entirely by Stokes\, (with co-write contributions from bassist Paul Brackens and drummer Ben Bicklein on “Ride”)\, the half-dozen tracks showcase his ever-maturing songcraft\, detailed with stripped-clean\, riff-driven guitar\, and intimate and arresting vocals. Opening with the unadorned\, dawning soul of “Until the Morning\,” Stokes leads his trusted group through an inspired jam on the coda\, then settles into the cycling rock of “Early Riser\,” again propelled by his infectious guitar work\, and a vocal cameo from Allman. The second-half teems with the straight-ahead pulse of “Ride\,” then shifts to the sunlit\, hazy sway of “Gemini.” Closing out Volume One\, Stokes dips into down-and-dirty seduction on “Don’t Tempt Me\,” and a assuring promise of a second and contrasting volume to come in 2024. Throughout the collection\, there are guest appearances from keyboard great\, John Ginty\, and singers\, R. Scott Bryan\, Mattie Schell\, Allie Vogler\, Joanna Sorenko\, and Chris Turnbaugh\, as well as string accompaniment from Mark Hochberg. Stokes’ story starts with classic rock- his first concert was Lynyrd Skynyrd- and the good fortune of happenstance: his St Louis neighbor was Devon Allman\, who encouraged Stokes early in his musical pursuits. Stokes developed into a prodigious\, teenaged firebrand with a passion for the blues\, pairing with another area wunderkind\, Marquise Knox\, and performing his first professional gigs. From high school garage bands to an All-State jazz ensemble\, Stokes expanded his musical palette. He attended Drury University in Springfield\, Missouri\, earning a degree in music therapy. In 2012\, with his band\, Delta Sol Revival\, he issued an Allman-produced\, five-song EP\, Witness. In 2017\, Stokes joined the Devon Allman Band and\, subsequently\, the Devon Allman Project\, of which he’s been a flagship member since 2018. In 2019\, Stokes put the finishing touches on an inaugural solo LP; a lean and ambitious set of rock-and-soul\, including a reimagined Talking Heads cover\, and a depth of original material ranging in style and subjects. Guitar Player magazine praised Stokes’ effort\, calling it\, “a tour de force of soulful rhythm-and-blues guitar playing.” Over his decade-and-a-half career\, Stokes\, in his own right\, also has been a welcomed guest onstage\, opening for or collaborating with a who’s who of artists such as Robert Cray\, Warren Haynes\, Marcus King\, Lucas Nelson\, Samantha Fish\, Ivan Neville\, Eric Krasno\, Eric Gales\, Robert Randolph\, The Waiers\, The Allman Betts Band\, and Tonina. * Show is for all ages. Attendees under 18 must be accompanied by a parent. Attendees under 21 will be subject to a $5 surcharge. The surcharge must be paid in cash at the door on the day of the event.

SUMMARY:Eddie 9V
DESCRIPTION:Eddie 9Vw/ Paul McDonald & The Mourning Doves Thursday Jan 30th 2025 Charleston Pour House Main Stage 7:30 doors/8:30 show $15 advance /$20 day of show   Eddie 9VEddie 9V has powered up. From the day he first slung a guitar on a local stage\, the Georgia-born bandleader announced himself as an artist to watch. But in the last few meteoric years\, Eddie’s music has crossed oceans and airwaves\, transcending his cult-hero status to become a beacon for fans of real music everywhere. “Eddie 9V is something else\,” wrote the UK’s Classic Rock of 2022’s chart-topping Capricorn. “A man who genuinely inhabits golden-era American roots\, playing the most instinctive blues you’ll hear all year.” You’ll find the proof on new studio album ‘Saratoga’\, releasing November 22\, 2024 on the fabled Ruf label. It’s a record that will thrill both newcomers and fans who have trailed Eddie since the start\, showcasing his fresh\, fiery spin on Southern soul\, blues\, rock and funk\, with his signature wit and sharp observations of modern America placing him squarely in the here-and-now. “I do think it’s a wonderful road trip album\,” he nods of the eleven originals co-written with his brother\, the much-respected Southern musician\, Lane Kelly. “I was shooting for a more Americana-type album this time\, less blues songs and solos and more focusing on the songwriting.” The new songs of ‘Saratoga’ deserve nothing less than your full attention. Eddie’s latest album announces his new groove with the crisp\, purposeful beats of the opening title track\, an instant favorite that gets under your skin with its almost disco- style harmonies and joust of horns and slide guitar (“That song is about being in a lonely tiny town that feels impossible to escape”). Halo struts from the speakers on Eddie’s falsetto howl\, before the lush yearning of Cry Like A River and Love Moves So Slow (co-written by Spencer Pope) brings vintage soul into the modern age. The brittle riffs and spacey vocal of Delta mark another gearshift\, flowing into Red River’s reflective-yet-kinetic groove. Wasp Weather speaks to Eddie’s love of rapid-fire streams of consciousness. “That’s my favorite lyrically ’cos I like spewing words that don’t make sense into songs. ‘I got a big mud house that I can’t keep clean\, it’s useless’ – I love that line.” The album plays out in style with the trilling alt-folk of Truckee – “We got high and did shrooms and camped on the Truckee river in California\,” he explains of the inspiration – the wistful Tides and Love You All The Way Down. Eddie even slips in a brass- blasting take on Mac DeMarco’s Chamber Of Reflection\, before bringing the record home with The Road To Nowhere’s shuddering\, tremolo-drenched country lament\, his trademark twang utterly transformed into a vintage croon. Eddie 9V is right: this latest album takes us all over the musical and emotional map\, while announcing that his recent career peaks are just the start. “Capricorn was a big jump for us\,” he reflects. “But I’m already writing new songs\, y’know?”   Paul McDonald & the Mourning DovesIt would be near impossible to overstate the uniquely singular quality of Paul McDonald’s voice and stage presence. It’s immediately recognizable and impossible to ignore. Once you’ve heard him sing\, you will always know whose voice you’re hearing. And once you’ve seen him perform\, you will not easily forget him. Often compared to legends like Tom Petty as a songwriter\, or a young Rod Stewart for his unique voice\, his songs and delivery are instantly relatable and universal in their appeal. His poetic story-driven narratives and deep\, thoughtful hooks are delivered with a raspy\, yet refined voice reminiscent of another era\, yet demanding to be heard right now. It’s rare for an artist to pull off the feat of being a poetic songwriter\, visual artist\, wildly engaging performer\, and an exceptional and soulful vocalist. Born and raised in Auburn\, Alabama\, it was the sound of southern dignitaries like the Allman Brothers and Lynyrd Skynyrd that first grabbed his attention. But it was when he discovered the music of the late 60’s & 70’s Laurel Canyon scene\, mixed together with his love for The Rolling Stones\, Neil Young and the aforementioned Tom Petty\, that he ventured into penning his earliest songs. At 15 years old\, Paul’s father bought him a guitar for Christmas and he taught himself to play by starting to write songs. His guitar style reflects that method and is a big part of every song he writes and records. By the age of 16\, he was already playing shows on the local circuit around his hometown. In his early 20’s he started Hightide Blues\, his first band\, and began touring and making records full time. “It all seemed to happen pretty quick and naturally. I’ve been carrying around a guitar since I was a kid\, and as soon as I ever tried to go in a different direction (he was two classes away from majoring in Biomedical Sciences at Auburn University)\, the universe would always pull me right back to the music.” After a few years of fronting and touring with various bands\, including The Grand Magnolias\, Hightide Blues\, and a short stint in an Americana duo\, Paul was looking to find his own voice as a solo artist. It was during this time that he got a call from an American Idol scout and found himself auditioning for and joining the show at its height of popularity. This led to a very high-profile period of time on television each week in front of millions of people\, a world of new celebrity friends\, a LA celebrity marriage\, a big song on the Twilight soundtrack\, and a whole lot of stalking paparazzi. It all turned out to be a mixed bag that might’ve started well\, but ultimately left him wondering what he was doing and how to return to his artistic roots. After a few years\, he made the bold decision to leave LA\, his celebrity friends\, celebrity marriage and relocate to Nashville to find his voice again. In 2018 he recorded and independently released his first solo album called Modern Hearts\, produced by the wildly talented Jordan Lehning. The album introduced a more alternative rock approach to his sound and a bunch of great new songs to his fans. But it still didn’t feel exactly like the direction Paul was seeking and he took a breather after that to play solo shows\, special appearances and write new songs. That breather ended up being a five year gap devoted to a lot of writing and recording\, even scrapping fully produced and mixed albums (and many other tracks)\, before he finally found the direction that he felt fully expressed who he was and what he was trying to say. During this time\, Paul also started the One Big Love Festival in Nashville\, bringing together many great artists from Nashville and beyond\, involving the community and giving back to various local charities. The event went on as a series over the course of several months in 2023\, building with each one\, and with a growing range of artists wanting to play. By the finale\, the series had showcased well over 100 artists\, featuring local acts to Grammy award winning artists with folks ranging from Aaron Lee Tasjan to Susto to Margo Price having graced the stage. In late 2023\, Paul McDonald started recording his newest album with producer Bobby Holland and with his newly-formed band The Mourning Doves. The moment they began to record\, Paul knew he had finally found the sound that was going to get his vision across to fans. In his words: “These are part of a collection of songs I’ve been working on these past couple of years. Each of them represents a time-mark in processing and moving forward with all I’ve gone through and everything that got me to this moment. Sonically it was a challenge to find the sound that was in my head\, and it took me a while to realize that my most inspired moments in music were with my first bands. We were rough around the edges\, but the imperfections and individual personalities made the music fresh. That inspired me to involve my live band in the recording process\, rather than just using session players to play on it. By then we’d played a bunch of shows together and knew each other’s quirks and sounds. When I heard back the first couple of tracks\, I knew we’d finally hit it… we’d finally found that sound I’ve been hearing in my head the past few years.” Paul McDonald’s new album is in the final stages of production. It features some of his most thoughtful and inspired work to date and he\, and everyone involved\, can’t wait for these songs to be heard and get out on the road to start playing them for people everywhere. * Show is 21+. Attendees under 21 must be accompanied by a parent & will be subject to a $5 surcharge. The surcharge must be paid in cash at the door on the day of the event.

DESCRIPTION:Caleb Synan is one of the hottest young comics in the country. (Funny AND good looking!) His unique background as a preacher’s kid from a small southern town gives him the ability to relate to any and every crowd — even though he’s a big old millennial who lives in LA. Want proof? He’s performed on CONAN (twice!)\, Last Comic Standing (once!)\, and his first Comedy Central special “30” in 2022 (You can watch it on YouTube!) He’s also entertained our troops in South Korea and Japan. What a guy! It’s no wonder he won the title of “Wittiest” in Franklin County High School’s 2009 Yearbook. He even wrote this bio himself.
