Blackwells Outpost Opens in Hanahan with Pizza, Soft Serve and a Preview of New Town Center

Hanahan residents don’t have to wait until 2027 to get a taste of the city’s future town center. A new outdoor gathering space is already welcoming visitors on Yeamans Hall Road.

Blackwells Outpost officially opened Friday, October 23, 2026, at 1240 Yeamans Hall Road, bringing wood-fired pizza, craft soft serve, outdoor seating and community gathering space to the heart of Hanahan.

The limited-time destination is located across the street from Blackwells Corner, the mixed-use development currently under construction and targeting a fall 2027 opening.

While the larger project takes shape, the Outpost gives residents an early opportunity to experience some of the food, businesses and community atmosphere planned for the future town center.

Wood-Fired Pizza and Craft Soft Serve

Two locally driven food concepts anchor Blackwells Outpost, sharing a food truck that serves both savory and sweet options.

Untitled Pizza Co., led by chef Jalen Reeves, specializes in wood-fired pizza made with Neapolitan-style dough and a New York-inspired finish.

The menu features familiar pizza favorites alongside seasonal creations and small plates incorporating local ingredients.

For dessert, Mimi’s Soft Serve offers a craft ice cream experience from co-owners Jennifer Rinella and Michael Sivel.

Named in honor of Rinella’s grandmother, Mimi’s features signature vanilla and chocolate soft serve, housemade dips and rotating toppings.

The vanilla combines Madagascar and Mexican vanilla with a touch of sea salt, while the chocolate is designed for a deeper cocoa flavor.

Both concepts are expected to have permanent homes at Blackwells Corner when the larger development opens.

More Than a Place to Eat

Blackwells Outpost isn’t intended to be just another food truck stop.

The outdoor space includes casual seating, shaded gathering areas and open greenspace intended for community activities.

Plans include rotating chef pop-ups, markets, live music and other neighborhood events.

That community-centered approach reflects the larger vision for Blackwells Corner: creating a walkable destination where Hanahan residents can eat, shop, socialize and spend time together without having to travel elsewhere in the Charleston area.

What Is Blackwells Corner?

The Outpost is a preview of a significantly larger development underway across Yeamans Hall Road.

Blackwells Corner broke ground on September 10, 2026, at the former Blackwells Hardware property, a location with deep ties to Hanahan’s history.

The planned town center will feature approximately 40,000 square feet of restaurants, retail businesses, offices and community gathering areas.

Announced businesses include Untitled Pizza Co., Mimi’s Soft Serve, Kudu Coffee & Wine, Pineapple House Boutique and additional locally focused concepts.

The development is currently targeting a fall 2027 opening, although construction schedules may change.

For a community that has spent years discussing the need for a more recognizable downtown, Blackwells Outpost offers a first look at what that vision could become.

The full town center may still be under construction, but residents can already stop by for a pizza, enjoy ice cream with family or friends, and experience a small part of the neighborhood atmosphere the developers hope to create.
