Experience Native American Culture at Wassamasaw Tribe’s Education Day

(Moncks Corner, SC) – The Wassamasaw Tribe of Varnertown Indians invites teachers, students and homeschool groups to an unforgettable Education Day on Friday, October 10th at Old Santee Canal Park. This engaging, hands-on cultural event is designed to enrich students’ understanding of Native American traditions, art, language, and <a href="http://history.

Visitors will experience live demonstrations and presentations from master artists, storytellers, and tradition bearers from across the Southeast, including:

Keith Brown (Catawba Nation), Traditional Potter

Kat Littleturtle (Tuscarora), Storyteller

Candace Richardson (Lower Eastern Cherokee), Children’s Book Author – Cherokee Language

Tammy Leach (Wassamasaw Tribe), Master Beadwork Artist

Kay Henninger (Pee Dee), Traditional Regalia Making Demonstration

Kathleen Sahtunkinish (Caddo Nation), Jewelry Making

Tammy Stepp (Seneca Tribe), Basket Making

Aztec Fire Dance Demonstration – Luis Salinas

Notchee Nation Singers, Southern Style Drum Group (Edisto Natchez Kusso)

Sierra Russell & Michael Muckelvaney (Edisto Natchez Kusso), Head Dancers showcasing Traditional, Grass, Jingle, and Fancy Dance styles

All registered participants will be mailed wristbands for entry. Wristband check-in begins at 9:30 a.m. on the day of the event

This event is a part of a 2 day festival. The Wassamasaw Annual Powwow will be taking place the next day (October 11, 2025) in the park from 10 am to 5 pm, with Grand Entry taking place at 12 pm. The general public is welcome to attend! See details at:
