Fuel Charleston Announces Closing After 15 Years on Rutledge Ave
It’s a bittersweet day for the Cannonborough-Elliotborough neighborhood and the Charleston food scene. After more than 15 years of serving up tacos, “Pain Relievers,” and friendly competition on the bocce court, Fuel Charleston has announced it is closing its doors.
The popular Caribbean-inspired cantina, housed in a converted 1950s filling station on Rutledge Avenue, will host its final day of service on Saturday, December 20, 2025.
In a heartfelt statement released by the owners, the team expressed gratitude for the community’s support over the last decade and a half:
“There’s never an easy or convenient moment to close a restaurant, but we’re ready to turn the page and embrace a new chapter. Our hearts are full, and our gratitude is endless… It has been one hell of a run.”
For many locals, Fuel wasn’t just a restaurant; it was a go-to patio for happy hour, a first date spot on the bocce court, and a consistent neighbor in a rapidly changing city.
One Last Hoorah If you want to pay your respects (and enjoy one last braised pork taco), you have until Saturday, Dec. 20 to stop by. The team is inviting everyone to come out for “one last pain reliever, one last taco, and one last game of bocce” to celebrate the memories made.
