NFL Legends & Chick-fil-A CEO Target Charleston for Massive Sports & Real Estate Project

A powerful new investment platform, Momentous Sports, backed by former NFL star quarterbacks John Elway, Tim Tebow, and Blake Bortles, has officially identified Charleston as a prime market for a massive new development.

This isn’t just about owning a team; it’s about owning and developing the entire community around the venue.

The Momentous Sports Model

Momentous Sports, which includes partners like Chick-fil-A CEO Andrew Cathy (through his private firm, Four Stones Real Estate), is launching a $100 million fund with a unique strategy:

  • Integrated Investment: They invest in professional sports teams and the stadium-anchored real estate districts that surround them.
  • The Vision: The goal is to replicate a model that creates mixed-use districts—complete with housing, retail, public gathering spaces, and hospitality—designed to be a central hub for community life.
  • Star Power & Capital: Having NFL Hall of Famer Elway and Heisman winner Tebow involved ensures deep sports experience and high-level capital backing.

What This Means for Charleston & The Battery

While a final location has not yet been announced, Charleston is specifically named as a key, less-mature market the firm is targeting early on. This strong interest points directly to a major push for professional soccer.

  • Soccer Anchor: The primary focus of this investment platform is the booming American soccer market, specifically the USL Championship (home of the Charleston Battery).
  • New Home? This investment could lead to a new, modern stadium and district that would serve as the permanent, purpose-built home for the Charleston Battery, replacing the current temporary setup at Patriots Point.
  • Economic Impact: The mixed-use nature of the project would likely create a surge of new development, jobs, and housing around the stadium site, modeling their flagship project currently underway in Jacksonville, FL (Sporting JAX).

What’s Next?

The development is still in the early stages, with Momentous Sports currently deploying capital and scouting locations. The Charleston community will need to follow closely as the firm moves to secure land and announce official plans for this transformative project.

This is a massive vote of confidence in the growth and future of both the Lowcountry and professional soccer in the region!
