Temporary Closure of Ashley Phosphate Railroad Crossing Coming July 31st

North Charleston residents and commuters who regularly use the Ashley Phosphate Road railroad crossing need to be aware of a temporary closure scheduled for Thursday, July 31st at 9:00 AM through Friday, August 1st at 5:00 PM.

Norfolk Southern will be undertaking emergency track maintenance at the crossing located between Southrail Road and Palmetto Commerce Parkway. This necessary work aims to ensure the long-term safety and reliability of this vital rail infrastructure.

The City of North Charleston understands that this temporary closure will cause significant traffic disruptions for residents, local businesses, and anyone traveling through the area. While the railroad corridor is under federal jurisdiction, the City is actively coordinating with relevant partners to help mitigate these impacts.

What this means for you:

  • Plan Alternate Routes: If you typically use this crossing, please begin planning alternate routes now.
  • Allow Extra Travel Time: Expect delays in the area and factor in additional time for your commutes.
  • Follow Detour Signage: Be sure to pay close attention to and follow all posted detour signs to navigate around the closure safely and efficiently.

The City of North Charleston appreciates your patience and understanding as Norfolk Southern conducts these important repairs. We encourage everyone to stay informed and make necessary adjustments to their travel plans.
