Dorchester County Showdown Returns Friday With Four Local High School Football Programs
High school football season is getting an early start in Dorchester County.
The 2026 Dorchester County Showdown returns Friday, August 14, bringing Ashley Ridge, Summerville, Fort Dorchester and Woodland together for an evening of junior varsity and varsity football.
The annual preseason showcase begins at 5:30 p.m. at Ashley Ridge High School Stadium in Summerville. Dorchester School District Two lists this year’s Showdown as an official athletics event sponsored by Geo Surfaces and Stokes Automotive Group, with advance tickets available through the district’s HomeTown Ticketing portal.
Four Dorchester County Programs Take the Field
This year’s lineup features two pairings that will carry over from JV competition into the varsity portion of the evening.

The format gives fans a chance to see both developing players and varsity squads before the regular high school football season gets underway.
For the varsity teams in particular, the Showdown provides an early opportunity to compete in a game-like atmosphere while local fans get their first look at what each program could bring to the field this fall.
The Showdown Has Become a Major Local Football Event
The Dorchester County Showdown has grown into more than just another preseason scrimmage.
The event has brought together some of the area’s most recognizable high school football programs over the years, with the format occasionally changing to include teams from outside Dorchester County.
When Ashley Ridge hosted the 2024 edition, 5,230 tickets were sold, according to Dorchester School District Four. That year’s event featured five Dorchester County programs competing against visiting schools and included bands, food trucks and a packed night of high school football.
The event returned to a JV-and-varsity showcase involving Ashley Ridge, Fort Dorchester, Summerville and Woodland in 2025, continuing the tradition of using the Showdown as one of the area’s unofficial kickoffs to football season.
Now those four programs are preparing to do it again in 2026.

The official Dorchester Two ticketing page currently lists the Showdown for 5:30 p.m. Friday at Ashley Ridge High School Stadium, with online ticket purchasing available ahead of the event.
With four local programs sharing the field and school pride already heating up across Dorchester County, Friday night should provide an early taste of the atmosphere that’s coming once Friday Night Lights officially return.

Heat Could Impact Friday’s Schedule
Fans planning to attend the Dorchester County Showdown should also keep an eye on possible schedule changes ahead of Friday.
Dorchester School District Four announced Tuesday that it is closely monitoring forecasted heat and weather conditions ahead of the annual football jamboree.
According to the district, conditions could result in adjusted game times, shortened game segments or other safety-related modifications.
The district will use the Wet Bulb Globe Temperature, or WBGT, to determine whether changes are necessary. WBGT takes several environmental factors into account and is the measurement used under South Carolina High School League heat-safety guidelines. SCHSL requires member schools to use WBGT monitoring when determining whether conditions are safe for athletic practices and competitions during high heat.
As of Tuesday evening, the Showdown has not been announced as postponed or canceled, and Woodland High School continues to list its participation for Friday, August 14 at Ashley Ridge High School.
Officials said additional changes will be communicated as decisions are made.
