Summerville has a new burger spot to add to the list.
Al’s Burger Shack is now open at 9500 Dorchester Road, Suite 188 in Summerville, inside The Corner at Wescott shopping center. The location is listed on the company’s official website as open daily from 11 AM to 9 PM.
The restaurant brings a North Carolina burger brand into the Charleston-area market, with Al’s already operating locations in Chapel Hill, Leland, Apex, and now Summerville.
What’s On The Menu
Al’s Burger Shack keeps things centered on classic burger-shack food.
The restaurant’s official site says it serves burgers, hot dogs, sandwiches, fries, sweet potato fries, tots, and shakes made fresh to order. Al’s says its burgers are made with 100% Black Angus ground chuck, hand-pattied, seasoned, and cooked to temperature, with specialty toppings and sauces made in-house.
The online ordering menu for the Summerville location also lists sides like crinkle-cut fries with sea salt and rosemary, sweet potato fries with cinnamon-cream cheese “Winnie Sauce,” tater tots, cheese fries, and house-made dipping sauces. The drink menu includes Cheerwine, Mexican Coke, fountain drinks, and milkshakes.
Why Burger Fans May Know The Name
Al’s Burger Shack has some name recognition outside South Carolina.
The brand promotes its “Best Burger in America” recognition from TripAdvisor in 2018 on its official website. Food & Wine also covered that TripAdvisor ranking, noting Al’s Burger Shack in Chapel Hill topped the list with its Bobo Chili Cheeseburger.
That gives the Summerville opening a little more weight than a standard new restaurant announcement. This is a burger brand with an established following in North Carolina now testing the Lowcountry market.

The Summerville restaurant is located inside The Corner at Wescott, a large shopping center at 9500 Dorchester Road.
First Washington Realty lists Al’s Burger Shack as a 2,500-square-foot tenant at the center. The property is also home to businesses including Harris Teeter, Marshalls, Starbucks, Moe’s Southwest Grill, Top Dawg Tavern, Jersey Mike’s, Wingstop, Fire Asian Grill, Pet Supplies Plus, Raising Cane’s, Panera Bread, and more.
The shopping center sits in a fast-growing part of the Charleston-area market, with First Washington Realty listing a 5-mile trade area population of more than 119,000 people.
For the Wescott, Summerville, North Charleston, and Dorchester Road crowd, that means another quick-service food option in one of the area’s busiest retail corridors.
