Grand Bohemian Charleston Is Now Hotel Operis, Bringing New Rooftop Dining and Arts-Inspired Experiences Downtown

October 20, 2026 | Charleston Local Updates

One of downtown Charleston’s familiar boutique hotels has entered a new chapter.

The former Grand Bohemian Charleston, located at 55 Wentworth Street, officially became Hotel Operis, Autograph Collection, on October 1, 2026.

But the transformation involves more than a new name. The 50-room hotel has introduced refreshed dining concepts, redesigned public spaces, and new experiences inspired by Charleston’s performing arts and cultural scene.

A New Identity Inspired by Charleston’s Arts Scene

The name Operis draws from the Latin word opus, meaning work or artistic creation, while also referencing opera and theatrical performance.

The hotel’s location within walking distance of 11 theaters influenced its new identity.

The rebranding emphasizes creativity, collaboration, and cultural experiences while preserving the property’s boutique character.

Hotel Operis remains part of Marriott’s Autograph Collection and is operated by Pivot, Davidson Hospitality Group’s lifestyle division.

Meet Arden Room: A Reimagined Rooftop Experience

One of the most notable changes is the transformation of the hotel’s fourth-floor rooftop restaurant into Arden Room Rooftop Bar & Dining.

Inspired by the Forest of Arden in Shakespeare’s As You Like It, the space introduces botanical design elements, lounge-style seating, and views of Charleston’s historic skyline.

The food and drink program features inventive cocktails alongside dishes with Lowcountry influences.

The hotel has also refreshed its ground-floor dining options with Café Lumen, serving coffee, breakfast, lunch, and lighter daytime offerings.

More Art, Music, and Interactive Experiences

The changes extend beyond the restaurants.

Hotel Operis has redesigned its lobby and gallery areas to showcase artistic influences ranging from theater and opera to dance, music, and visual media.

The property has also introduced an installation concept called Mirror Cues, featuring mirrors etched with theatrical quotations.

Guests can participate in interactive experiences such as wine blending and cocktail-making classes.

Additional cultural programming and partnerships with Charleston artists and organizations are planned.

What This Means for Charleston

Although Hotel Operis primarily serves overnight guests, several of its updated spaces and experiences offer additional options for Charleston residents.

The rooftop provides another downtown destination for dinner and drinks, while Café Lumen and the hotel’s arts programming create opportunities to visit without necessarily booking a room.

The transformation also reflects the continued evolution of downtown Charleston’s hospitality scene, where established properties are introducing new identities and experiences.
