Babas on Meeting Is Moving to King Street, Taking Over the Former Rodney Scott’s BBQ
A familiar Charleston café is getting a new home.
Babas on Meeting is preparing to relocate from 804 Meeting Street to 1011 King Street, taking over the former Rodney Scott’s BBQ space. The new location will become Babas on King.
The move is expected to happen this fall, although an exact opening date has not yet been announced.
Babas on Meeting Will Close at the End of September
For now, Babas on Meeting remains open.
Co-owner Marie Stitt told What Now Charleston that the Meeting Street café will continue operating through the end of September. After that, there is expected to be a short period of downtime before Babas opens at its new King Street location.
The brand’s official website still lists Babas on Meeting at 804 Meeting Street, alongside its Cannon Street and Wentworth Street locations.
The New Location Has Some Charleston Restaurant History
The move places Babas inside one of the more recognizable restaurant spaces along upper King Street.
1011 King Street was previously home to Rodney Scott’s Whole Hog BBQ, which opened its Charleston restaurant there in 2017 and closed in May 2026.
Now, the property is preparing for another locally familiar concept.
Instead of barbecue, the space will become the next home for Babas’ European-inspired café format.
What Babas Brings to King Street
Babas describes its cafés as neighborhood spots inspired by the cafés and bars of Europe, with an emphasis on Southeast ingredients.
The concept serves espresso and house-made pastries in the morning, sandwiches and salads during the day, and cocktails and wine later in the evening.

The King Street location will replace Babas on Meeting rather than simply becoming a fourth Charleston outpost.
Babas Has Been Growing Around Downtown Charleston
Babas began with its Cannon Street café and later expanded to Meeting Street. Its Wentworth Street location followed in late 2025.
The move to King Street represents another step in that growth, while also shifting Babas from East Central Charleston into one of the city’s busiest commercial corridors.
What remains unknown is exactly when Babas on King will open.
Stitt said the team is aiming for this fall, but no specific opening day has been announced.
