LOWVELO Returns This November With A Ride Bigger Than The Miles
The annual Lowcountry cycling fundraiser supports lifesaving cancer research at MUSC Hollings Cancer Center.
LOWVELO is returning to the Charleston area this fall, bringing riders, volunteers, donors, survivors, families, and supporters together for one of the Lowcountry’s most meaningful annual events.
The 2026 ride, known as LOWVELO26, is scheduled for Saturday, November 7, with registration currently open. The event supports cancer research at MUSC Hollings Cancer Center, South Carolina’s only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center.
LOWVELO offers several ways to participate. Riders can choose from five cycling routes ranging from 7 miles to 80 miles, while others can join through stationary cycling, volunteering, donating, or participating virtually through the LOWVELO Home Team.
The route options include 7-mile, 14-mile, 23-mile, 50-mile, and 80-mile rides. The longer 23-, 50-, and 80-mile routes begin at Brittlebank Park in downtown Charleston, cross the Ravenel Bridge, and finish on Isle of Palms. The 50- and 80-mile rides also extend into the Francis Marion Forest before heading back toward the finish line.
But LOWVELO is about more than the ride itself.
MUSC Hollings says 100% of rider-raised dollars go directly to cancer research, thanks to sponsor support. The event has grown into a major fundraising engine, with 1,640 participants in 2025, $1.13 million raised in 2025, and $4.6 million raised since LOWVELO began in 2019. MUSC also says LOWVELO seed funding has helped secure $24 million in full-scale NIH grants.
That makes LOWVELO one of the clearest examples of a local event turning community participation into research impact.
For Charleston, it’s also a full Lowcountry route story: downtown Charleston, the Ravenel Bridge, Mount Pleasant, Sullivan’s Island, Isle of Palms, and Francis Marion Forest all connected by one cause.
Whether someone is riding 7 miles, pushing through 80, joining a stationary class, volunteering at a rest stop, donating to a rider, or cheering at the finish line, LOWVELO gives the community a way to support the fight against cancer.
LOWVELO26 takes place Saturday, November 7, 2026.
