Tesla Supercharger Station Coming to Isle of Palms, Expected to Open by End of July

Electric-vehicle drivers will soon have a new place to recharge while visiting Isle of Palms.

Construction is wrapping up on a new Tesla Supercharger station at the Island Center shopping center, located at 1513 Palm Boulevard. The station is expected to become operational by the end of July, according to the City of Isle of Palms.

Four High-Speed Charging Stalls Planned

The installation will feature four Tesla V4 Supercharger stalls capable of delivering charging speeds of up to 325 kilowatts for compatible vehicles.

The Island Center location places the chargers near several businesses along one of Isle of Palms’ primary commercial corridors, allowing drivers to stop for food, shopping or other errands while their vehicles recharge.

The addition will also give electric-vehicle drivers another charging option without requiring them to leave the island and travel back toward Mount Pleasant.

Isle of Palms Previously Discussed EV Charging Options

Public charging infrastructure has been under consideration on Isle of Palms for at least a year.

During a July 2025 Public Services and Facilities Committee meeting, Dominion Energy presented a proposal to install EV charging stations at a city-controlled location. Officials discussed operating expenses, potential revenue from electricity sales and concerns about chargers occupying paid public parking spaces.

That earlier proposal involved a possible municipal installation. The newly announced Tesla Supercharger station is instead being built at the privately operated Island Center shopping center.

City officials have not publicly indicated that the two proposals are the same project.

New Charging Option for Residents and Visitors

Isle of Palms attracts residents, beachgoers and vacationers throughout the year, with significantly heavier traffic during the summer tourism season.

Adding a fast-charging station on the island could make longer beach visits and overnight stays more convenient for Tesla drivers and other compatible electric vehicles.

The station’s commercial location could also benefit nearby Island Center businesses by bringing drivers into the shopping center while their vehicles charge.
