Former West Ashley 7-Eleven to Become Deanna’s Wine Bar and Bert’s Pig Shop
A former convenience store in West Ashley is preparing for a major transformation.
Deanna’s Wine Bar and Bert’s Pig Shop are planned for 521 Wappoo Road, bringing a combination of curated wines, locally sourced pork, sandwiches, and house-made charcuterie to the neighborhood.
The businesses will share the former 7-Eleven property, giving the familiar building a new purpose.
Two concepts under one roof
The project comes from Bert Sheffield and Douglas Hickerson, who are developing a neighborhood gathering place centered on food and wine.
Deanna’s Wine Bar, named in honor of Hickerson’s mother, will focus on a carefully selected wine list, including bottles from smaller producers.
The adjoining Bert’s Pig Shop will emphasize whole-hog butchery and house-made charcuterie, along with sandwiches and meat boards.
Supporting a Lowcountry farm
The pork will come from Peculiar Pig Farm, a Dorchester County operation known for raising heritage hogs.
The owners plan to prepare charcuterie on-site, connecting the new business with the region’s farming and culinary traditions.
The wine selection is being developed with sommelier Andres Contreras.
A new chapter for Wappoo Road
The project also represents another example of an existing commercial building finding new life in West Ashley.
Rather than constructing an entirely new restaurant, the owners are repurposing the former convenience store at 521 Wappoo Road.
When will it open?
Deanna’s Wine Bar and Bert’s Pig Shop are targeting an opening before the end of 2026, according to published reports.
An exact grand-opening date, operating hours, and finalized menu have not yet been announced.
What’s Going On In Charleston will continue following the project and share updates as additional details become available.
