Frankie’s Fun Park Reveals Major Charleston Makeover Ahead of Fall Reopening

A longtime Charleston-area family attraction is preparing to begin an entirely new chapter.

Frankie’s Fun Park has revealed details of the extensive renovation underway at its original location at 5000 Ashley Phosphate Road in North Charleston. The transformed park is scheduled to reopen this fall with five new outdoor rides, a new go-kart track and completely reimagined indoor and outdoor spaces.

An exact reopening date has not yet been announced.

Five New Outdoor Rides Are Coming

Among the biggest additions are five brand-new outdoor rides designed to expand Frankie’s beyond the go-karts, arcade games and miniature golf that generations of Lowcountry residents remember.

The new attractions include:

• The Claw: A thrill ride that rotates while flipping riders upside down.
• Zero Gravity: A spinning attraction that uses G-force to hold riders against the wall as the floor drops.
• Super Jumper: A ride featuring rotating gondolas that carry guests up and down.
• Music Express: A fast-moving attraction with cars traveling along a circular, hilly track accompanied by upbeat music.
• Spinning Coaster: A roller coaster featuring cars that spin as riders travel through its twists and turns.

Frankie’s is also constructing a new one-third-mile Road Course go-kart track. The course will accommodate 32 single- and double-seat go-karts racing simultaneously.

The Indoor Experience Is Being Rebuilt

The renovation extends far beyond the outdoor attractions.

Inside, guests will find a new two-level, apocalypse-themed laser tag arena and bumper cars surrounded by black lights and mirrors.

The building will also introduce Drop Zone, an indoor tower ride that rotates 360 degrees before dropping riders 44 feet, and XD Dark Ride, an interactive 3D attraction featuring moving seats, laser blasters and competitive scoring.

Frankie’s says its original building has been stripped down and rebuilt with a new kitchen, dining area and game room. A covered walkway will connect the space to a new group-events building and another attractions building containing a brand-new arcade and Frankie’s prize store.

The park’s two tropical-themed 18-hole miniature-golf courses have also been remodeled. Although the courses are receiving a refreshed look, all 36 holes that guests have played since 1990 will remain.

Frankie’s Grill Will Return

Frankie’s Grill is also returning with a new kitchen.

The restaurant will serve scratch-made pizza, burgers, wings, sandwiches, frozen treats and draft beer. Expanded private-event spaces will provide new options for birthday parties, corporate gatherings and other group celebrations.

The Charleston Location Started the Frankie’s Story

The Ashley Phosphate Road park opened in July 1990 as the first Frankie’s Fun Park location.

Founded by Doug and Ken Godley, the company has since expanded to Columbia, Greenville, Charlotte and Raleigh, with another location planned for the Atlanta metropolitan area.

For more than 35 years, the Charleston park has been connected to family outings, birthday celebrations and childhood memories across the Lowcountry.

“This park is where the Frankie’s story started, so this reopening is very personal for us,” owner Doug Godley said in the announcement.

According to Godley, the company’s goal was to create an experience that feels completely new while retaining the qualities local families have enjoyed for more than three decades.

The scale of the new attractions makes this one of the most significant transformations in the park’s history—and signals that Frankie’s is not merely reopening its doors. It is introducing a substantially expanded family-entertainment destination built for a new generation of Lowcountry visitors.

Frankie’s Fun Park is expected to reopen its Charleston location this fall. The specific opening date, operating hours and admission details will be announced later.
